Circulation coins

Common sides
The common sides show variations of the map of Europe. This motif is complemented by the numeral representing the value of the coin and six lines that cut across the face running toward stars on both ends. The design was created by Belgian designer Luc Luycx.

National sides
To complement the uniform face of the euro coins, the Florence European Council, on 21 June 1996, indicated its wish to have a side with a national design.
