The Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) contributes to the promotion of young researchers working in various specialized fields of economics by granting a number of scholarships and awards.

The OeNB has a long tradition in promoting young economists in their scientific research. To this end, it had established three awards that were granted up to the year 2017:
The Olga Radzyner Award was established to commemorate Olga Radzyner, former head of the OeNB’s Foreign Research Division and a driving force in building up and expanding the OeNB’s special expertise in economic research on Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CESEE). Olga Radzyner died in a tragic accident in August 1999. The Olga Radzyner Award was bestowed upon young economists from the CESEE region for excellent research on topics of European economic integration.

The Franz Weninger Award was established to commemorate Franz Weninger, former head of the OeNB’s Economic Analysis Division, who died in an accident in the 1990s. The Franz Weninger Award was granted for outstanding master’s and doctoral theses in the field of monetary theory and monetary policy.

The Klaus Liebscher Award was established on the occasion of the 65th birthday of former OeNB Governor Klaus Liebscher in recognition of his contributions to Austria’s participation in Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and of his commitment to the cause of European integration in general.
