Your project at the research desk

The Research Desk offers to analyze microdata for research purposes. If you are interested in a research project that uses microdata from the Research Desk, you can get an overview of the process here.

overview of the process

Step 1 – Application

A basic requirement for the research cooperation is that your institute is recognized as a research institution by Eurostat1 or the Austrian Micro Data Center (AMDC)2 . If this is not the case, we kindly ask you to contact us via the Statistics Hotline.

If your institution is eligible, your research project begins with selecting the appropriate dataset(s) from our microdata offerings. Please ensure that all the data you select, if there are multiple, are available through the same access mode. If you need any further assistance or have additional questions, feel free to reach out.

Step 2 – Application review

You then submit the details of your research project to us via the project application form so that we can review it in the subsequent step. The Research Desk will check your application for formal feasibility. You will then receive feedback with the next steps.

Step 3 – Data provision

Depending on the datasets requested, the data will be made available to you within the framework of the possible data access modes. In addition, the endorsement of a contract is required to define the framework for the research cooperation.

Step 4 – Research

Once the data has been provided, the research project begins. The Research Desk is available for technical and further data requests. We kindly ask for regular updates on the project status for better traceability. The outputs are reviewed during the project regarding confidentiality requirements and then forwarded to the researcher (applies to Remote Execution as well as On-Site access).

Step 5 – Publication

On completion of the research project, a final confidentiality check of the results is conducted. After the final review, the project is released for publication.
