Technical cooperation
Die OeNB actively assists central banks in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia in supporting their economies in the process of transformation and capacity building. Essentially, the OeNB’s role in technical central bank cooperation is that of offering policy-oriented training and consultancy services – mainly through the platforms provided by the JVI.
The OeNB’s active role in the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI) represents a mainstay of its technical central bank cooperation activities. The JVI, which was founded in 1992, is primarily sponsored by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the OeNB. OeNB staff experts regularly share their expertise in JVI courses and workshops on central banking-related topics. Beyond imparting knowledge, such training is designed to provide participants with an international forum for exchanging opinions and experience as well as with long-term networking opportunities.
Together with other national central banks of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), the OeNB has contributed to EU-funded programs mostly for EU candidate countries and potential candidates in the Western Balkans. These programs are coordinated by the Deutsche Bundesbank.
To facilitate knowledge transfer, the OeNB also organizes tailored study and information visits as well as video conferences.
