Microdata is increasingly vital for both domestic and international research. However, accessing this data is governed by rigorous national and international regulations. To address these challenges, the OeNB offers a solution through its Research Desk. Under Article 8 of Council Regulation (EC) No 2533/98 of 23 November 1998 concerning the collection of statistical information by the European Central Bank, access to confidential statistical data may be granted to scientific research institutions, provided that direct identification is excluded. To ensure compliance, the Research Desk either supplies anonymized data or offers researchers a structural dataset that conveys essential data characteristics.
