Data Access Modes

In this overview you will find the access modes to the microdata sets offered. The corresponding information on the access modalities for the individual datasets is listed in the metadata of the available microdata.

Remote Execution
For remote execution, researchers are provided with a structural dataset containing the same variable names as the actual dataset but with fictitious values. Using this structural dataset, researchers are invited to develop code (in R, or in Python upon request) to perform data analyses, which the Research Desk then applies to the actual dataset. The resulting data output undergoes confidentiality review by the OeNB before being returned to the researchers.

On-Site Access
To facilitate a deeper understanding of real data relationships, the OeNB also offers on-site access for selected datasets. Researchers may arrange an individual appointment to visit the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (Otto-Wagner-Platz 3, 1090 Vienna) and work with pseudonymized real data in a secure environment. As with remote execution, all results are reviewed for confidentiality before being shared with the researchers. Both access methods – Remote Execution and On-Site Access – can be used flexibly within a project.

Anonymized Data Transfer
This access option is available solely for non-sensitive data not subject to strict confidentiality protections. The data is anonymized as needed and transferred to researchers via a secure, encrypted channel.
