Conference on European Economic Integration (CEEI) 2025
CESEE’s financial future: funding growth and innovation
The successful convergence seen in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CESEE) over the past decades has been shaped by strong FDI inflows and bank-based financing. However, economic convergence with the EU has slowed along with generally weaker growth in the EU itself. Europe now faces several challenges, including economic fragmentation and weaker economic performance of major trading partners. Against this background, the CEEI 2025 will explore what financial systems are needed to support future growth, innovation and convergence. The upcoming event aims to tackle the following questions and more:
- What infrastructure and regulatory reforms are needed for the development of capital markets?
- How can CESEE move from bank-based financing to more diverse funding sources beyond traditional bank loans How to attract venture capital to promote startups and innovations?
- How to balance the role of private and public investments in capital markets?
- How to encourage households to direct their savings into capital market investments?
- How to ensure financial stability and prevent the emergence of asset price bubbles?
