Description:

The services account is part of the current account and records cross-border transactions of Austrian residents with residents of other countries. Besides travel and transport also technical, commercial and financial services are covered. The compilation method builds upon the Extended Balance of Payments Services Classification (EBOPS 2010). The services account undergoes regular revisions and offers a high degree of detail. Credit values refer to Austrian receipts from abroad, while debit values refer to Austrian expenditures vis-a-vis other countries.

Methodology:

The travel item is compiled as secondary statistics in close cooperation with tourism statistics making use of a variety of primary statistics, most of all overnight stays, the tourism monitor and telephone interviews on business and private travel of Austrian residents. Business services are compiled by running a direct reporting system covering economic units that exceed the applicable reporting thresholds (concentration survey). Besides, administrative data, estimates.
