The renowned East-West Conference of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank has been renamed: It is now the Conference on European Economic Integration!

The Conference on European Economic Integration will continue to cover topical economic issues to the CEECs will provide a discussion forum for well-known experts on and from these countries. Although the focus of the conference has not basically changed, the conference has been renamed, as the title "East-West Conference" implied a European split that is no longer relevant following EU enlargement in May 2004.

This year’s Conference on European Economic Integration is entitled "South Eastern EUROPEAN   Challenges and Prospects," signaling the extension of the OeNB’s strategic focus to Southeast Europe. This region is particularly important for Austria and the OeNB for two reasons: First, some of the countries in the region are set to participate in the next enlargement round and second, Austrian businesses, above all banks, are increasing their activities in the region. Moreover, it will help introduce the region to many people who are not very familiar with it yet.
